A virtuoso oil sketch, painted with loose brushstrokes, depicting a path and a building in a landscape of red earth, under an unsettled sky. French in origin, the painting was painted in the 1910s on artist board by the famed Parisian colour merchants Sennellier. While there is no indication as to the authorship, the picture has excellent provenance: it belonged to the recently deceased fine art expert Jean Bertheol. Measuring 18 x 24 cm, the overall framed size is 27 x 35 cm.
