Subject Barque four masted ship name Jordanhill in full sail, side profile view on high seas, bearing various flags showing the St George & Union Jack. Also having such detailing to the rigging & sails.

To the right you can see another sailing ship in the distant background, Above mainly overcast grey cloudy sky with small patches of blue showing through. The seas are relatively rough & choppy.

A barque, barc, or bark is a type of sailing vessel with three or more masts having the fore- and mainmasts rigged square and only the mizzen (the aftmost mast) rigged fore and aft. Sometimes, the mizzen is only partly fore-and-aft rigged, bearing a square-rigged sail above.

History of the Jordanhill was a steel sailing cargo vessel, 4 masted barque built and launched in 1892, the builder was Russell & Co, Port Glasgow in the Kingston Yard, yard number 285, the ships official number was 98700 Tonnage 2291 grt / 2176 nrt. Its length 278.4 ft, breadth 42.0 ft and depth 24.2 ft.

Its first owner was J. R. Dickson & Co., Glasgow (Hill Line). First port of register was Glasgow. Other names 1920 AUGUSTELLA - 1922 MINERVA. Subsequent owner and registration history,1896 Thomas Law & Co., Glasgow. 1919 Shipping controller. 1920 Soc. Italiana di Navigazione "Stella d'Italia", Genoa. 1922 Spanish Navy. 1925 hulked. Vessel history1921 converted to motor ship, 2 screws.

1922 naval training ship, by 1928 out of service.End year was in 1937, fate broken up. References Clydeships, Jubileehall.

The painting surface has various craquelure and foxing, staining especially to the back of the canvas, there is a small tear to the front, which has had a recent repair also some touch up over painting where the tear was.

The frame has various signs of repairs, chips losses, general wear, scuffs, scratches also it has been overpainted commensurate with usage & age.
