Hobson May Collection has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
William Muller travelled widely on the continent as well as to Egypt and Turkey and his work was acknowledged for its exceptional quality. His early death in 1845 at the age of 33, two years after the date of this painting, sadly shortened the career of a very talented artist. The painting, which is surrounded by a later gilt frame with egg and dart foliage decoration, is in very good condition. This large, atmospheric 19th Century painting would be an important addition to a collection and a wonderful focal point in any interior.
