Set in original traditional impressive Scottish dark carved wooden frame.
Subject Ornithological study of 3 Kingfisher birds. Mother Kingfisher is in mid flight carrying food in her long bill ready to feed her 2 young Kingfishers who are hungry & waiting to be fed on a nearby branch.
Signed by the famous listed known artist Ralston Gudgeon RSW 1910-1984.
Ralston Gudgeon Scottish born artist. Gudgeon is best known for his paintings of birds and animals mostly in watercolour Gudgeon studied at the Glasgow School and in 1933 won the Torrance Memorial Award of the Glasgow Institute.
Gudgeon was one of Scotland’s leading wildlife artists and 1936 he was the youngest man ever to be elected to the RSW. He is represented in the Glasgow Art Gallery, the Paisley Art Gallery ...and City of Edinburgh Collection.
The colours are so bold and vibrant an exceptional most fine beautiful example of Gudgeon''s work.
Kingfishers or Alcedinidae are a family of small to medium-sized, brightly colored birds in the order Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania but also can be seen in Europe.
They can be found in deep forests near calm ponds and small rivers. The family contains 114 species and is divided into three subfamilies and 19 genera. All kingfishers have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species have bright plumage.
