A vibrant, abstracted oil on canvas with a jazzy feel by Franco-Swiss Gil Thévenot. While the work is almost entirely non representational, it is not difficult to see how the artist found inspiration in the jazz clubs of the 1940s, and elegantly translated their raw energy into painting.

While there is little biographical information on Thévenot, the artist exhibited at the Fine Arts Museum of Neuchâtel in his native Switzerland, and features in the "New Archives of French Art". He was active in Paris.

Our painting is signed, dated 1947 and titled "La cave a Jazz" on the verso, and measures 38 x 55 cm. The overall framed size with an elegant, luxurious frame is 56 x 73 cm.
