Pair of Oil Paintings by W.d.almond Ri (1868-1916)

A fine pair of oil paintings by William Douglas Almond RI (1868-1916). The paintings are of slightly different sizes but are obviously presented as a pair as they both depict drinking scenes and are in matching frames. One work shows an historical figure drinking the very last drop from an ewer and is titled on the reverse ‘Finished’ the other shows a butler figure pouring a glass of wine, this is also titled on the reverse but it is illegible. The pair are finely painted and exquisitely detailed, typical of the artist’s work. The paintings are in excellent untouched condition and retain the original superb gilt frames which are in great condition with original gilding. The paintings are both signed as well as the artist’s name being on the frame. William Douglas Almond 1868-1916 was a specialist painter of genre historical scene and lived in London, he exhibited prolifically and widely with 11 works shown at the Royal Academy and 39 at the Institute of oil painters of which he was elected a member, as well as at many other top fight galleries. The pair have a great decorative appeal and are ready to hang. C.1900.
