A splendid study representing Narcissus after the statue discovered at Pompeii in 1862. Narcissus is a figure from Greek mythology that was known for his outstanding beauty. According to the 12th-century poet John Tzetzes, he rejected all advances and eventually fell in love with his own image reflecting back from a pool of water.

As you can imagine, the word ‘narcissist’ is derived from his story.

Jean Keuterickx (1907-1969) was an American/Belgian painter that worked in California during the 1940s/50s.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a beautiful decorative frame with a gold inner border.
