Description

An unusual late 19th-century interior scene depicting a dark drawing room with various artworks and a seated lady. This highly atmospheric piece is lit sparingly by a single window on the left and several candlesticks. Five decorative urns are caught by the moonlight and provide a central focal point.

It was clearly the artist’s intention that the figure of a lady only comes into focus as you scan the room. It’s an interesting technique that creates an intriguing atmosphere.

The painting is signed and housed within a period frame.
