Calligraphy Inspired Abstracted Painting 1959, Onion Kitchen Still Life Oil on Board (2 of 3)

1940 - 1960
Description

I am pleased to present here the second in a series of three abstracted works by French artist Pierre Humbert (b. 1929). Clearly inspired by a humble kitchen staple - onions - they are graceful and elegant and endlessly evocative . The present work almost has a feel of Chinese calligraphy.

Humbert was part if the “Les Mains Eblouies” group of abstract artists, which counted

Joan Miro, Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder, Antoni Tapies and Pierre Alchinsky

among its members. “Les Mains Eblouis” exhibited notably at the famed Galerie Maeght

founded 1936 in Cannes, which specialised in non figurative and avant garde works.

Measuring 34 x 10 cm, the work is painted on slate-like salvaged board which is a little rough around the edges. It is signed and dated 1959 on the verso. Presented in a very simple wooden frame, the overall size is 36 x 12 cm.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
