An accomplished mid-century portrait of a lady by English artist, Lionel Hamilton Renwick (1917-2003). It’s rendered with sensitivity and suggests he knew the subject well.

Renwick was a highly reputable painter of equestrian subjects and very rarely painted people. He’s most well known for the commissions he undertook for the Royal Family and several of his works have hung at Royal residences. His depiction of the Queen’s racehorse, Aureole, proudly hangs in Buckingham Palace.

It’s interesting to consider how he came to paint this particular lady. Does she have Royal connections?

The portrait is inscribed on the reverse with the artist’s name/address and housed within its original frame.
