Jégoudez's father had graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and succeeded his own father, grandfather Léon sculptor who had set up a successful stonemason's business. The Claridge building on the Champs Elysees, for instance, owes its facade to the Jégoudez family business, where Jean started his career. In parallel, Jean studied at the National School of Decorative Arts, and worked with Jean Carlu, the Art Deco graphic designer.
Jean Jégoudez formed deep friendships with poets, notably with René Guy Cadou Jean Bouhier and Luc Bérimont, and illustrated numerous poems.
He exhibited in Paris, notably with Bing and André Hurtez on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, and on the left bank with Michel Warren and with Rovier gallery.
A lifelong lover of nature, Jégoudez retreated to the Southern French countryside in the 1960s. The oil on canvas mounted on to board presented here, however, dates from his Parisian period. Presented in a simple, slightly unevern and well patinated strip frame that was certainly made by the artist himself; the painting is signed at the lower right. Measuring 14 x 21 cm, the overall framed size is 16 x 24 cm.
