Wouldn't you like to be there? A glorious, sun-drenched scene with azure waters that ripple almost hypnotically, and white chalk cliffs. The depiction has such immediacy that one is tempted squint from the brightness of the sunlight! In the painting, artist Elizabeth Armsden depicts water sports at Old Harry Rocks, three chalk formations located at Handfast Point, the most eastern point of the Jurassic Coast. Elizbeth lived and worked minutes away in the village of Studland,

where she shared a studio with A H Berens. He love for the Dorset coast and countryside is evident in her painting.

Armsden and Berens went on regular painting trips around Dorset in her car, following the novels of Thomas Hardy. Armsden's work was published in 'The Artist' magazine, and Elizabeth was known to have exhibited in both London and Paris. Several pieces by her are held by Swanage Museum.

Presented here is a rare oil on board, dating from the 1940s. Measuring 44 x 54 cm, the painting is signed at the lower right. The overall size in a quality frame is 60 x 70 cm approx.
