Description

A symbolist landscape featuring two mysterious figures under a tree and an atmospheric evening sky by Gabriel Guérin. Born in 1869 in Boubonne-les-Bains, Gabriel studied with William Bouguereau, Gabriel Ferrier and Morlot at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Paris. From 1899, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais. His life was tragically cut short in 1916, when he died age 46 at the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris, as a result of illnesses contracted at the front.

An oil on panel, our painting measures 26 x 35 cm. It is signed and dated 1907 (?)at the lower right. A discreet split to the left of the panel has been restored. The overall framed size in a period frame is 37 x 45 cm.
