Description

A charming late-19th-century depiction of a quaint cottage in the New Forest by English artist, Frederick Golden Short (1863-1936). As the title suggests, the cottage was owned by ‘Mr Lester’.

Short was born in Lyndhurst, which is also in the New Forest, so he knew this area well. The majority of his works tend to focus on the picturesque views around the area he spent most of his life. He exhibited widely during his life including at The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters

The painting is inscribed on the reverse.

Year of creation: c. 1894

Provenance: England

Condition: Overall very presentable.

Artist’s Auction Highlight: £3,200 achieved for ‘In the new forest, view from Ramnor, September afternoon’ at an auction in 1995.
