Description

This is possibly the most luminous and sun drenched painting in our collection at present. Wouldn't you just love to be there - walk past the man tending to his boat to the azure blue mediterranean sea?

Dating from circa 1930, the painting is a work by Dominique Manago (b.1902), and likely depicts the fishing village of Martigues, near Marseilles. Dominique came from a family of artists- his father Vincent was a renowned orientalist painter - which was the reason by Dominique was born in Tunisia, where his father was working at the time. Dominique's younger brother Armand Guérin-Manago also became a painter. Dominique came to specialise in land- and seascapes of the South of France, painting in the traditional mediterranean style - not with a brush, but entirely with a paint knife.

Our atmospheric work measures 40 x 30 cm and is signed at the lower left. It is presented in its original frame with a period label from a Paris gallery on the verso. The overall framed size is 50 x 43 cm.
