Description

An exquisite 19th-century etching by Leopold Flameng (1831-1911) depicting Queen Herodiade from Gustave Flaubert’s novella, Hérodias. It’s after a painting by Benjamin Constant (1845-1902).

Flameng was a highly accomplished French printmaker and painter.

The etching is housed within a good later frame and glazed.

Medium: Etching on paper

Overall size: 17½” x 20” / 45cm x 50cm

Year of creation: c. 1880

Provenance: England

Condition: Very good overall.

Artist’s auction highlight: £6,000 achieved for ‘What Am I Bid’ at Christie’s in 2016.
