Superb Pair of Landscape Oil Paintings by Frank T. Carter

A fine pair of landscape oils on artist board by the highly regarded Francis Thomas Carter (1853-1934) known as Frank. The pair show mountainous landscapes and are both titled on the frame: ‘Stonthwaite Valley, Borrowdale’ and ‘Capel Curig. North Wales’. The pair are wonderful studies of landscape, time, and place, worked in an almost impressionist manner. The paintings are both signed and dated 1920. They are in excellent untouched condition. The frames are wonderful quality and retain all the original gilding, with one or two old repairs. The pair have a great look and dramatic decorative presence.

Frank T. Carter is an artist associated with Newcastle and the north, he was self-taught and became a great commercial success. Carter exhibited widely and prolifically including 18 times at The Royal Academy as well as extensively at the Royal Cambrian Academy, The Royal Hibernian Academy and The Glasgow Institute of Fine Art amongst many others. His work captures the magnificence and romance of landscape beautifully and is much in demand, particularly in the north.
