Description

A luminous and very atmospheric oil on panel by the rare Franco Danish artist Sonia Hansen (1901-1993), dating from the 1930s. It depicts mist rising from a valley, mountains, and the most glorious of skies. Born in Frederiksburg to a Danish father and a French mother, Sonia moved to Paris to study painting with Consuelo Fould. Whilst exhibiting at the Paris Salons, she would also marry French neo thomist philosopher Jean Daujat.

An oil on panel with some discreet and stable craquelure measuring 27 x 35 cm, the painting is signed and dated (19)39 at the lower right. In a quality mid-century frame, the overall framed size is 44 x 51 cm. A monograph (a slim volume in French with many examples of her work) on Sonia Hansen and her art will be remitted to the buyer with the painting.
