John Mogford.

(1821 – 1885).

Exeter born artist from a large family of painters, his brother Henry was a watercolourist.

John painted many marine and coastal scenes but also some equestrian portraits.

He studied at the Government School of Design at Somerset House, London and married a daughter of Francis Danby. His studio sale was held at Christies on 25 February 1886.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy (32) the British Institution, Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (47), and the Grosvenor Gallery, the Dowdeswell Gallery (80) and many more across the UK.
