A fine late 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a young Italian man looking across the ocean in Capri, Italy. The artist, Niels Frederik Schiottz-Jensen (1855-1941) has captured a peaceful moment of stillness and you can almost feel the warm glow of the radiant midday sun.

Schiottz-Jensen (1855-1941) had a skill for romanticising everyday fleeting moments that would otherwise pass us by. Here, he captures the imagination by focusing on a single figure stood admiring a view - perhaps lost in their own thoughts.

He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen and later in Paris at the Academie Colarossi. His work was widely exhibited during his lifetime and he was awarded the Academy Art Prize twice along with the first class annual medal in 1895.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower right and housed within a simple gilded frame, which is probably the orignal.
