Oil Portrait of a Smiling Lady by A.larroux

A wonderful oil on canvas portrait of a lady by A.Larroux. The portrait shows the lady looking directly out at the viewer with a slight smile which is quite unusual and utterly enchanting. The quality of the work is superb particularly the detail in the patterned fabric of the dress and the lace collar. The work is signed and dated to the lower right: A.Larroux 1889 indicating a French origin. I cannot find a record of the artist but judging by the quality of the piece it is likely they were a regional professional portraitist. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a couple of very small holes repaired. The gilt frame is of the period and is wonderfully original in carved and gilt wood. The frame while of the period is not French and most likely has been used for this picture at a later date. The whole has the most decorative look and really would be a statement piece in any room.
