It is hard to bring a fresh perspective to something that has been portrayed in art as often as Venice, but Pierre Christin manages to do so, with ease! His Venice in the mist is a symphony of soft greys blues and pinks, painted with rich impasto, with a hint of abstraction.

Born the December 26, 1935in Évian-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie), Pierre Christin studied drawing at the cantonal art school of Lausanne in 1957 and painting school of fine arts in Rennes. He participated in various group exhibitions before settling in Paris in 1959.

Exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne in Paris from 1962, and at the Salon des Indépendants from 1965, Christin's major breakthrough came in the late 1960s, when he became a major representative of French painting in Japan, further to numerous exhibitions there.

He had solo shows in 1996 and in 2002 at the Nakata Museum in Hiroshima.

The exhibited in Caracas at the Contini gallery, in 1976, participated in the International Contemporary Art Fair in Paris in 1980, had a one man show at the Art Basel

In 1981 and in 1996 received the 31rst International Contemporary Art Price of Monte Carlo as part of the 700 years of the principality.

Our oil on canvas dates from 1967, is signed at the lower right, dated and titled "Venise" on the verso. Measuring 33 x 41 cm, the overall framed size is 51 x 58 cm.
