A naive early 19th-century French school portrait of a girl with a bird and dog. This unusual decorative piece was probably produced for the family by a local (or travelling) artist.

It’s a good example of naive 19th-century folk art and what it lacks in accuracy it makes up for in charm.

Overall size: 23½” x 28½” / 60cm x 73cm

Year of creation: c. 1830

Provenance: France

Condition: Light craquelure. Canvas relined. Areas of in-painting following an earlier restoration.
