A fine mid-19th-century portrait of a woman with an endearing smile by Danish painter, Frederik Storch (1805-1883).
This beautiful painting captures the subject’s expression with a deft touch and careful attention to detail. We love the cheeks, which glow and indicate a degree of shyness - and the hair with almost every strand rendered.
Frederik Storch trained and later taught at the Royal Danish Academy. Many of his works are held in museum collections and this is a good example of his portraiture.
The painting is signed/dated and housed within a frame that’s probably its original.
Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 17” x 19” / 43cm x 48cm
Year of creation: 1852
Provenance: Denmark
Condition: Light craquelure. Areas of cloudy varnish. Frame with some age-related wear. We feel that the painting is in nice condition for its age but we’re happy to revarnish it at no additional cost should you wish.
Artist’s auction highlight: £6,980 achieved for ‘Indian Landscape’ at an auction in 1994.
We're able to ship internationally and offer free delivery throughout the UK.
