A charming 19th-century French school portrait of a boy with a hoop. He’s wearing a beige tunic with a white collar and carries a stick in his left hand.

During the 19th-century, children’s clothing tended to be created at home - either by mothers or seamstresses. A popular outfit for both boys and girls consisted of a tunic, which was fitted at the waist and flared out into a skirt.

This young gentleman would make the perfect centrepiece for the right room - particularly if you’re aiming for an informal mood.

Overall size: 21” x 25” / 54cm x 63cm

Year of creation: c. 1850

Provenance: France

Condition: Light craquelure and some minor paint loss. A few scratches. Minor areas of in-painting. Frame with some light age-related wear.
