A charming and decorative portrait drawing by Charles Daniel Ward. A superb miniature with some much character and detail, evocative of the Art Deco period. The work retains the signature of the artist on the reverse. The piece is in excellent condition and mounted in a period gilt and blue painted frame. The whole is ready to hang.
 
Charles Daniel Ward was born in Taunton and studied art at the RCA. He lived in Chelsea and later in Blewbury, Berks. He painted genre, landscapes, portraits and flowers. His wife Charlotte Blakeneney (Ward) was also a well-known artist who exhibited in London and at the Paris Salon. She was president of the Society of Women Artists, and friend of Dorothea Sharp and Helen Seddon, who together painted in the open air. Charles exhibited at the RA from 1898 to 1932 (41 works) including perhaps his most famous work ‘Progress of Spring,’ which was sold at Christies Nov. 1993 for £31,000 hammer.
