Welsh Landscape Oil Painting by Charles Wyatt Warren (1908 - 1993)

A very interesting and decorative landscape oil on canvas by highly regarded Welsh artist Charles Wyatt Warren. The scene is not titled but is most likely Snowdonia, with mountains in the background and a still lake in the foreground. The technique is typical of the artist with both fine brushstrokes and the use of thick impasto paint. I do feel that the work is from his early period as there is not much use of thick layers of paint he developed later in his work. The painting has been professionally cleaned and has some slight restoration made in the sky. The painting retains the original period white frame with the artist's address on the reverse indicating that this was an exhibited work. The frame has had the central section repainted at some point though it has been done very well.

Charles Wyatt Warren was a landscape painter who was born in Caernarvon in 1908. He was completely self-taught as an artist. He was a member of Arts Society of Paddington, Caernarvon Art Group, and a founder member and former secretary of NWG. He exhibited at the Royal Cambrian Academy, the Royal National Eisteddfod, the Royal Society of painters in oils, and extensively in Wales and abroad, as well as various solo exhibitions. Gwynedd County Council and CASW hold examples. His style is comparable to the leading artist of the Welsh School, Sir Kyffin Williams.

The painting is an interesting early example of the artist's work and a desirable piece of Welsh art.
