Fine Georgian Watercolour 'testing The Water'

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine and early Georgian period watercolour of a young lady out with her dog and dipping her toes in a stream. The work is of an excellent quality, the face is beautifully drawn and the landscape is all worked in great detail. The painting was probably done by a talented aristocratic amateur artist. Painting and drawing were taught to ladies from wealthy families during the later Georgian period and this is most likely a work of this type. The condition is excellent the colours are still quite bright and there are only a few minor marks on the paper. The painting has been later framed in a bird''s eye maple frame from the Victorian period, which is in excellent untouched condition. The painting would date to C.1820. A great and decorative example of the type and gives a great period look.
