A beautiful still life depicting what appears to be a mandolin or saz laying across an old open book. It’s a fine work and the artist, Emile Bussier, has rendered the light particularly well as it falls across the pages.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a frame that could be its original.

Medium: Oil on canvas

Overall size: 29” x 25” / 73cm x 63cm

Year of creation: c. 1900

Provenance: Germany

Condition: Very presentable. A minor blemish in the top right. Frame with some age-related wear.

Artist’s auction highlight: £2,000 achieved for ‘Rowing out to the Rescue’ at Bonhams in 2004.
