A mid nineteenth century oil on canvas painting by Paul Jones (active 1855-1888), depicting game dog in a rural landscape. Signed and dated 1856, lower left.

In excellent condition, having been sensitively cleaned. The canvas has been relined in the past to a good standard.

Paul Jones was a nineteenth century artist, noted for painting rural sporting scenes. His work often depicted game dogs and he had a particular penchant for terrier dogs. His works are known for being small in dimension with exacting attention to detail.
