This is a fascinating Victorian walnut barometer with true collector appeal having ornate foliate carvings decorate the top of the banjo style case. Featuring a thermometer above a generous main dial diameter of 20cm having a enamel dial with original bevel edge glass and a visible aneroid barometer movement. The walnut is a beautiful warm rich colour and in excellent condition ideal for any home or office.

On the dial it reads Patented SGDG Paris

SGDG was a French type of patent that ceased to exist in 1968. The name was a common abbreviation for "Sans Garantie Du Gouvernement“ (patent without government guarantees).

France and Belgium maintained a system of simple registration of patents. It was believed that patents registered in this way are free from any liability from the government perspective.
