A very interesting and decorative oil on canvas painting of Rockport, Massachusetts by Bill Brown. The work is part of the artist group that has flourished in Rockport since the nineteenth century. The scene is that of a harbour and has a typically New England look. The work is quite modern and post-impressionistic in manner with a bold use of colour and solid geometric shapes. The painting is signed to the lower right and dated 1949, it is also inscribed on the reverse “Rockport. Mass. USA. Artist’s Colony”. The painting is in excellent condition and is in the original simple oak frame.
