carve out their place in a still male-dominated world. Anne Gacon (born 1913), who painted who painted the splendid, life-affirming still life with red tulips, is an excellent example. She studied with Victor Prouvé - the undisputed master of Art Deco - at the Fine Art Academy of Nancy, and subsequently with Yves Brayer. But she also was a journalist and war correspondent during the second World War, for which she received high military honours!
Her paintings were shown at the Salon des Indépendants , of which she was a member, at the Salon d'Automne and at the Menton Biennale.Between 1954 and 1962 , she exhibited in Paris and in particular Galerie Arlette Chabaud in1968, where I believe our "Red Tulips" were acquired. The oil on canvas measures 60 x 51 cm and is signed at the lower left. Beautifully framed, the overall framed size is 72 x 63 cm.
