A lovely down-to-earth scene - a toppled over geranium pot, probably on garden terrace - by French Eugene Petit (1838-1886), an artist known of his masterly depictions of flowers.

Having studied with Muller and Dieterle, Eugene Petit exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1863, and obtained a medal in 1873.

His paintings can be found in numerous French museums, such as those of Carcassonne, Compiègne, Courtrai, Rouen and Saint-Etienne.

Our painting by Eugene Petit is a particularly fresh and lively oil sketch on canvas. The canvas was mounted on board which is slightly uneven at the top edge. Measuring 18.5 x 23 cm, the painting is signed at the lower right.

The framed size is 26 x 28.5 cm (frame with some wear and tear). A second floral still life by Eugene Petit is available in a separate listing!
