Superb Welsh Oak Cupboard Dresser, Snowdonia, Circa 1760

18th century
Description

Fine quality dresser in the reddish and very dense oak typical of Meirionnydd. The plate rack has a well-shaped cornice above a frieze with a cut-out design, over three shelves with a panelled back, flanked by shaped sides and resting on shaped feet. The top of the base has a moulded edge above three drawers, with a smaller central drawer and shaped panel below, flanked by doors with square and rectangular applied panels, and with panelled ends.

The brass handles and escutcheons are Victorian replacements but very attractive.

(Some old damp damage on the reverse of the top rail of the base where the dresser stood against the wall - see last pic.)

Wonderful colour and surface patination. Vale of Ffestiniog, Meirionnydd, Snowdonia, north Wales, circa 1760.

Height: 70.5 ins; 187 cms

Width: 60 ins; 153 cms (To cornice: 63.75 ins; 162 cms)

Depth: 21.25 ins; 54 cms

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
