Beautiful pair of 19th Century Grand Tour patinated bronze Capitoline Lions on green marble bases. Originally bought to Rome during the reign of Domitian the Egyptian lions were placed at the base of the steps leading up to the square in 1562 and converted to fountains in 1588. Even brown patina with areas of verdigris which enhance the beauty of these bronzes and harmonise perfectly with the marbre vert bases.
