Description

A late Georgian period oil on canvas portrait of a country Gentleman. Naive but well painted with good detail and decoratively very attractive. Some old scratches and minor paint loss but generally in good aged condition. The canvas has no stretcher and we think held in place in the frame by a board backing. The back is covered in green linen (see photos) retained by rusted pins which has not been touched as the portrait sits well in the frame. We think the painting was probably reframed years ago and is best left as it is.

Unsigned and un dated .....possibly might be written in the inside of the back ?

47 wide by 57.5 overall with exposed canvas 36.5 by 46.5 high.
