Large Pair of Victorian Oil Portraits

A pair of fine and large oil on canvas laid to board portraits. The portraits are of a man and wife in typical half length poses. As is usual for man and wife works they sit facing each other. There are some beautiful details particularly the flowers in the lady’s hair. The sitters are recorded as George Bland (1809-1871) and Louisa Margaretta Bland (Nee Playford) (1807-1869) of Mildenhall Suffolk. The pair have been professionally cleaned recently and were most likely repaired and laid to board in the 1950’s. The paintings retain the original superb quality pair of gilt and swept frames which are in wonderful untouched country house condition. The pair are typically not signed and would have been painted provincially as they have a slight naivety about them. A great pair of large and decorative portraits that are ready to hang. C.1850.
