A Large Georgian Oil Portrait

19th century
Description

A late Georgian oil on canvas portrait of a Gentleman. Unsigned or dated but very well executed and in good period condition. Original gilded frame. The subject is wearing a short grey wig and his attire suggests a date of 1800 to 1825. There is a label to the rear which states....'The renovation of this picture was executed by F.J.Harris and Son 13 & 14 Green Street Bath who will be pleased to give personal advice on all works of art' It is dated Aug 1956. No evidence of any renovation can be seen by our eye. The owners must have regarded the portrait as important enough to pass it to F J Harris for work ...cleaning perhaps ?

The frame has its original gilding aged through time and some minor gesso damage (see lhs bottom corner molding) but is generally good.

Overall 85 max high by 71.5 max wide

The canvas about 49.5 by 63 cm high

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
