I love the immediacy of this work, which projects you right into this lush Southern landscape. You can almost hear the crickets, the view is wonderful: there are hills in the distance, and one feels that the sea is not far.

Our oil on canvas, dating from the 1940s or 50s, is unsigned. It bears on the verso a faint stamp "....Rue de la Grande Chaumière, Paris". The Rue de la Grande Chaumière is home to the historically important art academy of the same name, where famous artists from all over the world taught and studied. The street also housed numerous artists' studios - Gauguin and Modigliani had theirs at Number 8.

Measuring 55 x 46 cm, the overall size in of the painting in a more recent frame is 68 x 58 cm
