A wonderful set of four large Georgian prints relating to Shakespeare. The four prints are in excellent condition and have been framed in modern frames and mounts probably about twenty years ago. The prints were published by John Boydell who at the end of the eighteenth century wanted to capitalise on the great Shakespeare revival of the time. He opened a gallery in London on the Pall Mall and commissioned many great artists of the period to create paintings inspired by the works of Shakespeare to hang in the gallery. The paintings commissioned for the gallery were all engraved as prints of which these are fine examples. The four are:

Cymbeline Act III Scene IV by J.Hoppner RA, engraved by Robert Thew. Published June 4th 1801
Othello Act II Scene I by Thomas Stothard RA, engraved by Thomas Ryder. Published Sept 29th 1799
Winter’s Tale Act V S...cene III by William Hamilton RA, engraved by Robert Thews. Published June 4th 1793
All the prints are in ready to hang condition and together provide a huge amount of decorative impact.
