Garden by the River, Summer Vegetation, French Fauve Abstracted Landscape Oil on Board

1940 - 1960
Description

A bold and exuberant, abstracted landscape and will not fail to cheer you! Reminiscent of the early "Fauves" such as Vlamick and Derain, this is a mid century work by Bernard Pochon (1874-1974), an artist who was mostly active in Brittany and in Normandy. An oil on hardboard, the painting is signed at the lower left and is titled "Jardin et la rivière" on the verso. It also bears on the verso the artist's studio stamp as well as various exhibition or inventory numbers.

Measuring 46 x 55 cm, the overall framed size is 60 x 69 cm.
