A mysterious and evocative painting depicting a lone figure walking in a landscape with ancient trees, mountains and a river. The atmosphere of this oil on canvas, which is two hundred years old, is dreamlike and almost magical.

Unsigned, the painting is most likely Northern French or from the Low Countries.

Measuring 24 x 30 cm, the canvas is a large fragment which has been re-stretched on to newer stretcher. In fair condition with wear and repair craquelure and wear, the painting presents well in an exquisite frame by French master frame makers Delf.

The overall framed size is 38 x 47 cm.
