Thomas Lound 1801-1861- 'Constables Granary' River Stour

Description

A wonderful drawing of the mouth of the river Stour Essex, showing 'Constables Granary' with what is probably a Thames Barge moored on the mud. The background shows the skyline of Manningtree.

John Constables family famously owned and operated the Mill at Flatford and the Granary would have been a key part of the commercial operation.

Thomas Lound owned a brewery in King Street Norwich. He was pupil, patron and close friend to a number of major members of the Norwich School. Lound exhibited extensively having 18 at the Royal Academy 1845-1855 and 10 exhibits at the British Institution 1846-1857.
