George Percival Gaskell, the Mill Pond, Large Antique Landscape Oil Painting

Description

A sublime turn of the century oil on canvas depicting a view across a mill pond towards an undulant landscape. The artist, George Percival Gaskell RBA (1868-1934), has adopted a hazy style of brushwork that’s akin to a Monet at its most dreamlike. Given the size of the piece, it’s a painting to lose yourself into.

Gaskell was a painter and print-maker that hailed from Shiply in Yorkshire. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London, in Paris and in Italy. His work was shown at the Royal Academy 60 times and at the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) 101 times. He was elected a member of the RBA in 1896.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a beautiful foliate frame with decorative ornamentation. A label on the reverse relates to a sale in 2012 whereby the painting changed hands for £2,250.
