Description

A beautiful impressionistic still life by Belgian painter, Victor Simonin (1877-1946). This is a piece full of expression, vibrancy and spirit.

With a broad brush, the artist has skilfully daubed in the various elements and you can see how much he enjoyed painting them. He had an ability for capturing complex arrangements with a loose touch and minimal brushwork.

Simonin studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and is known for his expressive landscapes and still lifes. He was also a keen violinist until an accident resulted in an injury to his left hand.

The painting is signed in the upper left and bears an exhibition label on the reverse. It’s housed within a good moulded frame.

Overall size: 24” x 20” / 61cm x 51cm

Year of creation: c. 1930

Provenance: Belgium

Condition: Very presentable. Frame with light scuffs and wear.

Artist’s auction highlight: £2,561 achieved for ‘Table Fleurie’ at auction in 1989.
