Description

A delightful floral still life, depicting a basket of humble pansies. In French, this sweet and humble flower is called "Pensée" (as in "penser" = to think) and is said to represent thoughts of love and affection.

Unsigned, it was acquired from a reputable auction house as attributed to Ferdinand Troupeau. a painter from Bordeaux who exhibited genre scenes and notably floral still lives at the Paris Salons from 1878 to 1887. Dating from circa 1880, the oil on canvas was extended at the top and bottom, possibly by the artist himself.

Measuring 48 x 63 cm, the overall size in its original oak frame is 61 x 76 cm.
