Wigs on the Green has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
There’s an old saying that if you want “to get noticed, get a hat” and that is just what the young lady in this portrait has done.
The paleness of her bonnet, along with her white empire-line dress, contrasts well with her long dark curls, brown eyes and rosy complexion. Circa 1810.

The portrait is set with a mount in a gold frame that is glazed on the reverse to reveal neatly plaited brown hair. Apart from a little dust under the glass, this piece is in fine condition.
