A charming mid-18th-century portrait of a gentleman wearing a brown coat and waistcoat, white cravat, and powdered wig. The sitter’s identity is a mystery but he carries a gentle, almost whimsical, expression.

The portrait is housed within a beautiful gilded frame with swept foliate corners.

Medium: Oil on canvas

Overall size: 17½” x 21” / 44cm x 54cm

Year of creation: c. 1760

Provenance: Sweden

Condition: One minor paint loss in the top left and areas of craquelure. Frame with age-related wear and losses.
