River Landscape Oil Painting by E.p.baker

A charming and decorative oil on canvas landscape by E.P.Baker. The painting has a great ethereal feel about it with the foreground painted in bright tones and the background fading into a haze. The work has an air of impressionism in the capturing of light, time and place. The painting has been professionally cleaned and a very small hole repaired it is in excellent condition with a typical craquelure in places. The painting is framed in a vintage frame partly painted and partly gilt, in tones that work wonderfully with the scene.

The work is signed E.P.Baker who is little known but is recorded in The Dictionary of Neglected Artists as a landscape painter working in the Edwardian era who exhibited two works at the Worthing Art Gallery Summer Exhibition in 1910, these were a view on the Seine and a Normandy Landscape. I do feel that this work is likely to be one of these paintings.

The whole is ready to hang and has a great decorative appeal with a feeling of calm and beauty. C.1910.
